Team Development for Peak Performance
In any organization, people are required to work together. Good teamwork is a joy. Bad teamwork is a pain. Fortunately, there are effective ways to build communication and collaboration, resolve conflict, achieve accountability, and enhance performance. Teams can benefit from consultation whether they’re just forming or re-forming, facing predictable growing pains, stuck in conflict mode, or looking to improve already strong performance. Leaders also may want to clarify when to use a team approach, a work group, or an individual to accomplish an objective. Using the best approach can save time, money, and stress.
Though not always a team issue, leaders often face the challenge of helping two or more key employees work together with more cooperation and less conflict. There are a great many reasons for “bad blood” between co-workers and a great many ways they display their discontent. Consultation can help resolve such concerns in constructive, respectful ways.
Differences of opinion are a normal, desirable part of any decision-making process - and people make decisions at work all day long. Usually we exchange ideas, shape the best ones into a plan, and take action. Sometimes, however, differences can harden into fixed positions or even opposing "camps". In the face of such conflict, some people become rigid and overbearing, others become devious and manipulative, and still others just run for cover. Guidance to find better methods to solve conflict is not only beneficial for the organization, but also for the well-being of those involved.
